Betty Jo dons a glitter sash for her 90th birthday party.
Born on October 10th, 1933 in the house her father built, Betty Jo was the youngest of four children. Her mother, Nora, was a great baker. When she was a little girl, Betty Jo wanted to help her mom in the kitchen. Having lived through the Great Depression, Nora was afraid Betty Jo might mess up the recipe and waste ingredients so she sent her to fetch pantry items instead.
"I remember my sisters Bebe and Myra tried baking a cake, and it turned out horrible. If our mom found out, she'd have a fit so they went into the garden, dug a hole and threw it in there!" Betty Jo recalled, laughing at the memory.
Betty Jo has four sons, 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Never one to enjoy her picture taken nor being the center of attention, yet wherever her family is gathered, Betty Jo is at the heart.
Betty Jo will be turning 92 this year.
Can she bake a cherry pie, Charming Betty?
Hello! I'm the youngest grandbabe of the most charming woman I know, Betty Jo. My Grandma Betty has always supported me in my baking endeavors and beyond, and it is with utmost joy to have named my home bakery in her honor.
Growing up (and still to this day), my Grandma Betty would often sing nursery rhymes to me, Including my favorite, "Billy Boy." In this traditional folk song, one of the questions asked is: "Can she bake a cherry pie, Charming Billy?"
Thus, this is how Charming Betty's came to be.
It is my pleasure to share naturally sweetened baked goods Inspired by the wholesome Love between grandparent & grandchild, and it is my hope for those who taste these homemade treats to experience similar feelings of comfort, nostalgia, & delight with each bite.
